Project Background & Client Needs

The client operates a mountain scenic area famous for steep trails. Climbing drains visitors' energy, and seniors and families often turn back halfway — hurting both experience and secondary spending — while human porters offer limited capacity at high cost. The park wanted a tech-enabled assist: self-service rental robots carrying loads uphill so visitors travel light, rugged enough for mountain terrain and centrally managed from a cloud console.

Hiking Power-Assist Robot Solution Overview

Juhui Software delivered an IoT shared power-assist robot system for the mountain park, including a visitor WeChat mini program, on-board smart terminals and a park operations console. Tourists scan to rent a robot at the trailhead; it carries their load and follows them uphill, handed back at the summit or return point and settled by trip duration. The robots adapt assistance to slopes, follow their owner's track and run safety geofencing to stay within bounds; the console schedules deployment by trailhead and aligns fleet size and maintenance with seasonal demand.

Core Feature Modules

  • Scan-to-rent with assisted following — visitors scan to start; the robot carries loads and adapts assistance strength to slope gradients.
  • Track following & obstacle avoidance — multi-sensor fusion keeps human-robot binding safe on crowded trails.
  • Safety geofencing — boundary breaches trigger slowdown and alerts, preventing loss or runaway units.
  • Battery & status monitoring — the console tracks charge, position and faults per unit, auto-dispatching retrievals.
  • Deployment scheduling — planning follows trailheads and visitor flow, densifying in peak season and recalling units off-season.
  • Trip billing & packages — duration-based pricing with round-trip bundles and co-branded pass perks.

Technical Architecture Highlights

The on-board terminal fuses multiple sensors for gradient recognition and adaptive power control, staying online via dual 4G and mesh-network links in weak-signal mountain terrain. Track following combines UWB ranging with visual identification to keep binding stable on busy paths. The cloud platform manages heartbeats and telemetry over MQTT, with server-side geofences pushed dynamically. The mini program integrates scan rental, deposit-free payment and a trip-billing engine that syncs orders with device state in real time, including offline billing reconciliation for connectivity gaps.

Launch Results & Data

Since deployment on the main trail, slope-adaptive assistance has drawn rave reviews from senior and family visitors, with summit completion rates and satisfaction rising markedly. Track following plus geofencing have kept the fleet free of serious safety incidents, and fleet loss stays well controlled. Trailhead-based scheduling cut idle running while average daily usage per robot climbs steadily. The robots became a social-media attraction lifting summit dining and retail spending, and the client ordered more units and extended deployment to a second trail before the next peak season.
