Smart Locker System for Food Pickup: Background & Client Needs

Office buildings, campuses and hospitals generate dense food-delivery traffic, yet all face the same three pains: couriers waste time delivering upstairs, meals piled at front desks get misplaced or lost, and peak-hour pickup lines block the lobby. A property operator wanted food pickup lockers deployed in lobbies and elevator halls — couriers drop and go, customers collect by code — with warming and sterilization built in. Juhui Software delivered this custom smart locker system.

Solution Overview: An Integrated Hardware-Software-Cloud Platform

The solution is a smart locker platform for food deposit and pickup, built on three ends: a courier mini-program (scan to deposit, automatic slot assignment), a customer side reachable via mini-program and SMS (pickup code delivery, scan-to-open), and a cloud console for cabinet monitoring, slot scheduling and operations analytics. The hardware integrates warming modules and UV sterilization, with both heated and ambient slot types.

Core Feature Modules

  • Courier scan-to-deposit: couriers scan the cabinet QR code, the system assigns a free slot and opens it — drop-off completes within ten seconds.
  • Pickup-code verification: customers receive a code via push, enter or scan it to open the slot; the order auto-verifies and the slot closes.
  • Warming and sterilization in one: heated slots hold hot meals at constant temperature, while UV modules sterilize on schedule for food safety.
  • Real-time slot monitoring: the console shows live slot occupancy and temperature curves with automatic anomaly alerts.
  • Peak-hour analytics: deposit rate, turnover and peak throughput are visualized to guide cabinet expansion and site optimization.

Technical Architecture Highlights

Cabinets connect over 4G to the cloud, reporting slot status and temperature and receiving open commands via the MQTT protocol. Warming and sterilization modules run on a device-side policy engine driven by cloud-pushed parameters. Pickup codes reach customers through dual channels — SMS and mini-program template messages — to prevent missed pickups. The cloud manages cabinet fleets per location, and the slot-scheduling algorithm prioritizes reuse of adjacent slots to maximize turnover.

Results & Data After Launch

After deployment, lobby clutter in office buildings improved markedly: the heated and ambient slot types met different meal requirements, the pickup-code flow drove mis-takes to nearly zero, and the built-in UV sterilization module proved especially valued in hospital settings. Console data shows slot turnover and deposit rates climbing through peak hours; the operator completed two rounds of cabinet expansion on this evidence and replicated the deployment across multiple campuses and hospital sites.
