Remote Device Monitoring & Control
Remote device monitoring and control platform for massive fleets: online management, real-time alerts and remote commands for global device operations.
Project Background and Client Needs
A hardware manufacturer exports smart terminals to more than 30 countries, with a global installed base exceeding 100,000 connected devices. After-sales had long depended on local distributors: offline devices, drifting parameters and firmware defects went unmonitored, minor faults festered into batch complaints, and every firmware fix meant flying engineers abroad. The manufacturer wanted its own IoT remote monitoring and control platform — reclaiming O&M at headquarters while offering differentiated service tiers to overseas key accounts.
IoT Remote Monitoring and Control Platform Overview
JuHui Software built a massive-scale IoT remote monitoring platform: device firmware embeds a standard SDK and connects securely over MQTT on power-up; the headquarters team monitors global online status, telemetry and geolocation in a web console; overseas distributors and key accounts access their own devices through multi-tenant accounts; a consumer app lets end users bind and control devices; and open APIs integrate with the client's existing CRM and ticket systems.
Core Feature Modules
- Massive fleet management: device registration, grouping, tagging and lifecycle management, with real-time visibility of 100,000+ online devices in map and list views.
- Real-time telemetry: voltage, temperature, signal strength and other metrics reported on policy, with curve replay and threshold comparison for remote diagnosis.
- Tiered alerts and tickets: offline, abnormal and fault events escalate by severity, auto-linked to work orders and owners for closed-loop traceability.
- Remote command dispatch: remote reboot, factory reset, parameter configuration and batch commands with real-time delivery acknowledgement.
- Batch firmware OTA: region- and batch-based canary rollouts with automatic rollback on failure, eliminating brick-at-scale risk.
- Multi-tenancy and open APIs: isolated tenant views for distributors and key accounts, plus open APIs for integration and differentiated services.
Technical Architecture Highlights
The platform runs on highly available microservices. An MQTT cluster at the access layer sustains 100,000+ persistent connections, with mutual authentication and TLS safeguarding device identity. Massive telemetry streams land in a time-series database with hot/cold tiered storage, while control commands travel a separate encrypted channel under full operation auditing. A rules engine performs real-time stream computation for second-level alerting, and the OTA service supports resumable transfers and canary releases. Multi-region deployment lets overseas devices connect to nearby edge nodes before aggregating to headquarters — trimming cross-border latency while meeting local data-residency rules.
Launch Results and Data
Within a year, the platform surpassed 100,000 online devices under unified monitoring. Anomaly alerts now receive minute-level response, and most issues are resolved remotely before users notice — firmware defects are fixed through canary OTA rollouts, cross-border engineering trips went from routine to rare exceptions, and overseas service costs fell sharply. Real-time command dispatch stays dependable even on weak networks, and customer satisfaction visibly improved. Leveraging multi-tenancy and open APIs, the manufacturer launched paid O&M packages for overseas key accounts, converting a cost center into a new revenue stream.
